Six area girls high school golf teams competed on Wednesday in the season-opening Mona Shores Invitational at Stonegate Golf Course.

The invitational occurred on the first day of varsity sports competition involving any area teams since all school sports were shut down in March due to the COVID-19 emergency.

East Grand Rapids won the event with a team score of 362. Lila Henkel of EGR was the medalist, running away from the field with a sizzling score of 60. Her teammate, Anna Fay, finished second overall with a 75.

Montague finished second in the team standings with a 358 score, followed by East Grand Rapids (367), Mona Shores (391), Whitehall (394), North Muskegon (419), Spring Lake (433), Reeths-Puffer (451), Jenison (453) and Grand Rapids West Catholic (583). 

The top local golfers were Whitehall’s Karli VanDuinen, who finished third with a 78; Montague’s Orianna Bylsma (81, fourth place); North Muskegon Georgette Kersman (86, tied for fifth); Montague’s Megan Brown and Whitehall’s Kennedy Woodring (88, tied for eighth); and Montague’s Gabby Moreau (89, 10th).
