The Fremont boys cross country team was dominant at Saturday’s Hill and Bale Invitational, hosted by Fremont High School.

The defending state champion Packers ran away in the team standings, taking first place with 15 points. Grand Rapids Potters House was second with 70, followed by Whitehall (101), Kent City (102), Fruitport (115), Montague (126), and Western Michigan Christian (183).

Fremont had the top five individual runners. Taking first place was Nathan Walker (15:48.6), followed by Ben Paige (16:47.2), Conor Somers (16:52.6), Joshua Zerfas (17:10.8) and Adam Ward (17:25).

Kaden Hainer from Montague was ninth (17:48.6) and Addison Bluhm from Whitehall was tenth (18:25.0).

In the girls race, Kent City outdistanced second-place Fremont 68-77. Montague was third with 79, followed by Whitehall (87), Western Michigan Christian (92), Fruitport (138), Potter’s House (165) and Big Rapids Crossroads (195).

Abby VanderKooi of Western Michigan Christian ran away with the individual competition, taking first place with a time of 17:42.9.

Fremont’s Taylor Mater-Gerth was second (19:40.9), Kent City’s Layla Martini was third (20:38.9), Kent City’s Alyeska Linsely was fifth ((21:09.2), Montague’s Isabelle Auch was sixth (29:49.1), Whitehall’s Ariana Treat was seventh (22:04.4), Montague’s Dreea Atchison was eighth (22:10), WMC’s Brianna Zuidena was ninth (22:32.4) and Whitehall’s Hayli Fagan was tenth (22:33.2).
