The Grand Haven Buccaneers were defeated 62-18 Friday night in O-K Red Conference football action against Grandville, ruining the debut of new coach Mike Farley.

Grandville opened the scoring with a 79-yard touchdown run in the first quarter, which was followed by a one-yard TD run soon after to make it 16-0.

Grand Haven responded with a score of their own to make it 14-6, thanks to an 11-yard touchdown run by quarterback Owen Worthington.

The Bucs’ response was watered down when Grandville took the following kickoff back for a 98-yard touchdown, which made it 24-6 following a 2-point conversion.

The Bucs were able to answer back again when Owen Worthington connected with Jaxon Franz for a 68-yard touchdown pass to make it 24-12.

Grandville responded by rattling off three unanswered touchdowns, making the score 48-12 heading into halftime.

The only score of the third quarter was a 67-yard run and PAT from Grandville to make the score 55-12.

Another long run from Grandville made the score 62-12. The scoring was capped off when Grand Haven’s Jaxon Franz found the end zone from two yards out.

Grand Haven’s Worthington threw for 90 yards and one touchdown while rushing for 89 yards and one touchdown on 13 attempts.

The Bucs travel to face Hudsonville next Friday.
