The Orchard View football team led late in the third quarter on Friday, but ended up falling to Manistee 34-20  in a Lakes 8 Conference contest.

OV’s Darius Williams opened the scoring with a 10-yard rushing touchdown on the Cardinals’ first possession, giving the visitors an early 6-0 lead.

Manistee responded with a touchdown from a yard out and took a 7-6 lead.

Michael Hyatt scored on a 10-yard run with 7:51 left in the first half, and a two-point conversion gave Orchard View a 14-7 advantage.

Williams scored again with 2:08 left in the first half, this time on an 86-yard rushing touchdown. The Cardinals missed the PAT and led 20-7 in the second quarter.

Manistee scored just before halftime, leaving OV with a 20-14 edge at the break. The Chippewas got another touchdown with eight seconds left in the third quarter, and the game was tied 20-20 headed into the fourth.

The Chippewas took their first lead on a touchdown with 6:17 left in the game, then added another score to ice the victory.

Manistee is now 2-0 overall and 1-0 in the conference. The Cardinals, now 0-2 overall and 0-1 in the league, will visit Ludington next Friday.
