The Ravenna football team broke into the victory column on Friday, going on the road to defeat Mason County Central 35-7 in a West Michigan Conference matchup.

The victory was the first for new Ravenna coach Justin Ego.

Running back Steven Cook was the big point producer for the Bulldogs, finding the end zone three times. He scored from four yards out in the first quarter and seven yards out in the second, giving Ravenna a 14-0 halftime lead.

The Bulldogs extended their lead to 21-0 in the third quarter when Grant Becklin picked off a pass and returned it 34 yards for a touchdown.

Cook added a two-yard TD in the third, and Ravenna led 28-0 after three quarters.

Mason County Central got on the board in the fourth quarter with a four-yard run by Khole Hoffman. Ravenna capped off the scoring with a four-yard TD burst by Tristan Witt.

The game was closer statistically, with Ravenna having a 192-179 edge in total yards and a 156-140 advantage in rushing. Mason County Central hurt itself by throwing five interceptions.

Cook finished with 11 carries for 66 yards. Witt had four carries for 46 yards while Thomas McCullogh ran eight times for 43 yards.

Hoffman had 31 carries for a game-high 100 yards rushing for the Spartans. He also had five catches for 29 yards and led his team on defense with six tackles.

Ravenna is now 1-1 overall and in conference play. Mason County Central fell to 0-2 overall and in the league.
