The Western Michigan Christian volleyball team battled back from a 2-1 deficit and defeated Ludington 3-2 on Tuesday in a key Lakes 8 Conference match.

The Warriors won the first set, 25-23, lost the second 25-17 and the third 25-15, before regrouping and winning the fourth set 25-19 and the tie-breaker 15-10.

Alisha Leffring paced the Warriors with 10 kills while Kendal Young dished out 50 assists. 

Defensively, Kyla Wiersema led the way up front with seven blocks and Leffring anchored the back line with 21 digs. Taylor Folkema chipped in with 16 digs while Maddie Wiersema finished the night with 14. 

The Orioles were paced by Elena Vaara with 17 kills, De’Lahna Porter chipped in with 14, and Veronique Porter dished out 36 assists. Sophia Cooney led the Orioles defensively with 10 digs. 

WMC improved to 9-3 overall and 2-0 in the conference. Ludington is 4-6 and 1-1.

LAKES 8

MUSKEGON CATHOLIC CENTRAL 3, MANISTEE 1 – Erin LaVigne led MCC to the Lakes 8 Conference victory.

The Crusaders took the first two sets by identical 25-13 scores, lost the third 27-25, then wrapped up the match with a 25-19 win in the fourth.

LaVigne led the team in kills with 12 and aces with six. Claire LaVigne had a team-high 33 assists for MCC.

Muskegon Catholic is now 3-4 overall on the season and 1-1 in conference play.

WEST MICHIGAN CONFERENCE

NORTH MUSKEGON 3, RAVENNA 1 – The Norse defeated the Bulldogs in four sets to claim their second conference win of the season.

The first set went to Ravenna 25-23 before North Muskegon rattled off three straight wins, 25-14, 25-20, and 25-18.

Syann Fairfield led the Norse with seven kills, Jesse Cooke served six aces and Emma Houseman dished out 51 assists.

North Muskegon improved to 7-3 overall and 2-0 in conference play.

SHELBY 3, MASON COUNTY CENTRAL 0 – The Tigers swept the Spartans in West Michigan Conference action.

The set scores were 25-18, 25-11, 25-12.

Kendall Zoulek led Shelby with 11 kills while Natalie Horton added eight. Lauren Dean had 31 assists and Zoulek served five aces.

Defensively the Tigers were led by Morgan Weirich with 22 digs, Zoulek with 17 digs and Ella Olmstead with two blocks.

WHITEHALL 3, OAKRIDGE 0 – The Vikings defeated host Oakridge in straight sets.

Leading the way for Whitehall were Charley Klint with a team-high 12 kills. Maggie Evans had 31 assists and added seven kills and five aces. Defensively, Ryleigh Mott totaled 28 digs.

For Oakridge, Hayden Ruel had 15 service points along with 17 assists while adding eight digs defensively. Bri Benson had eight kills while Saidee Raap aided the defensive effort with four blocks.

Whitehall improved to 7-3 overall and 2-0 in the conference.

O-K GREEN

MONA SHORES 3, HOLLAND 1 – The Sailors remained undefeated in O-K Green play, and won their fourth match in a row, by beating the Dutch.

Mona Shores won the first two sets 25-18 and 25-13. Holland took the third set 25-20, then Mona Shores won the fourth 25-11.

Brooke LeRoux paced the Sailors with 13 kills while Riley Rosenthal chipped in with10. Grace Norris dished out 23 assists. 

Defensively, LeRoux and Norris anchored the Sailors with12 and 9 digs apiece.

The Sailors improved to 9-1 overall and 4-0 in conference play.

REETHS-PUFFER 3, MUSKEGON 0 – The Rockets defeated conference opponent Muskegon in straight sets, 25-13, 25-8, 25-11.

Leading the Rockets offensively were Liv Depies and Emma Boorman, who both had four kills and three aces. Sophia Hekkema chipped in with three kills and two aces.

Defensively, Depies had 10 digs, Boorman had five digs, and Hekkema had three digs and three blocks.

Reeths-Puffer is now 3-4 overall and 3-1 in conference play.

O-K BLUE

GR WEST CATHOLIC 3, SPRING LAKE 0 – The Lakers fell 15-25, 17-25, 22-25 to West Catholic in an O-K Blue conference matchup.

Alicia Mumby had seven kills for Spring Lake while Kalli Lewkowski and Emma Nicles added five apiece.  Kendra Kieft served up four aces and had 18 digs. Julia Zonca chipped in with 13 digs. Lewkowski contributed three blocks as well.

The Lakers are 0-6 overall and 0-3 in the conference.

ALLIANCE LEAGUE

FRUITPORT CALVARY 3, TRI-UNITY CHRISTIAN 1– The Eagles defeated Tri-Unity by set scores of 25-23, 25-11, 20-25, and 25-17.

Emmalee Dykman led Fruitport Calvary with 12 kills. Emily Beals served up seven aces. Gabrielle Hebert and Meghan Johnson had three. Bekah Dukes dished out 21 assists. 

Defensively, Logan Burgess anchored the Eagles with 19 digs while Johnson recorded 12. Dykman also contributed with two blocks. 

The Eagles improved their record to 5-3-1 overall.
