Fruitport and Western Michigan Christian battled to a 2-2 tie in boys soccer action Saturday. The Trojans struck first and led 1-0 at halftime, but WMC scored the first two goals on the second half to take a 2-1 lead. Fruitport added a second goal with 15 minutes to play to knot the score at 2-2.

Both teams had opportunities to take the lead down the stretch, but neither could convert and the game ended in a draw. 

Ryan Laus scored both goals from the Trojans, with Jackson Rebone and Zach Schaefer each picking up an assist. Justin Laus had seven saves for Fruitport.

Charlie Buursma scored WMC’s first goal on an assist from Caleb Kozal. The second goal came on a penalty kick converted by Gavin Riksen. Ashton Leffring drew the penalty for the Crusaders. Joey Eastway made six saves in the net for WMC. 

The Warriors are now 5-2-1 overall this season, including a 5-0 mark in the Lakes 8 conference. Fruitport is 3-2-3 on the season. 

REETHS-PUFFER 4, ZEELAND WEST 0 — The Rockets picked up an O-K Green conference win over the Dux Saturday to improve to 2-4-4 on the season and 2-4-1 on the season.

Jaxon Carpenter scored a pair of goals, including one from 50 yards out, and assisted on a third. Ashton Carpenter and Darren Patterson each added a goal, while Connor Mammen, Ryan Barmes and Seth Cook each picked up an assist. 

Gage Hopkins manned the net and saved six shots. The Rockets outshot Zeeland West 25-11. 

MONA SHORES 1, WEST OTTAWA 0 — A strong defense effort led the Sailors to a win over West Ottawa. Hayden Yaros scored the game’s lone goal off an assist from Abe Freye.

Keegan DeKuiper picked up his fourth shutout of the season in the net for Mona Shores.

The Sailors improved to 7-2 overall and sit 6-2 in conference play. 

KALAMAZOO HACKETT CATHOLIC CENTRAL 2, NORTH MUSKEGON 1 — The Norse dropped a close match against Hackett Catholic Saturday. Hunter Koekkoek had North Muskegon’s goal, scoring on a corner kick. Leighton Hunt made nine saves in the net. 

The Norse are now 3-5 on the season. 

LUDINGTON 1, GRAND RAPIDS NORTHVIEW 0 — Ludington improved to 6-3-2 on the season with a win over Northview Saturday.

Parker Wendt scored the game’s only goal off an assist from Colin Anders. Kyle Wendt and Tiler Marrison both played one half in goal for Ludington, making five saves each.

FREMONT GOES 2-1 IN WEEKEND TOURNAMENT — The Packers faced off against Hart, Montague and Orchard View on Saturday and came away with two wins.

Fremont handled Hart in an 8-0 finish to start the day. David Wachter had a hat trick with Marcus Klimek, Gabe Whittle, Grant Vissia, Joe Kortge and Braiden McDonald each scoring one.

In the second game, the Packers battled Montague tough, but lost 1-0 on a Wildcat goal with five minutes to play. 

Fremont rebounded to thump Orchard View to the tune of a 7-0 victory. Vissia and Kortge each scored twice, while Watcher, Klimek and Lane Converse each found the back of the net once.

Fremont is now 8-1-1 on the season, including 6-0 in conference play.
