Dylan Everett is definitely feeling healthy again.
The Montague running back went down with a nasty knee injury in a victory over Oakridge in September, and missed several weeks of action.
But he obviously healed up nicely, as evidenced by his performance on Saturday when he scored four touchdowns, including an 87-yard kickoff return, to lead the Wildcats to a 41-13 victory over North Muskegon in West Michigan Conference play.
With the victory, Montague finished the regular season with a perfect 6-0 record and clinched the conference championship.
The Norse gave Montague a scare for a while.
After a scoreless first quarter, North Muskegon quarterback Brennan Panucci threw a 12-yard touchdown pass, and the PAT gave North Muskegon a 7-0 lead.
Montague answered with a 1-yard TD burst by Everett, but the extra point was no good, and North Muskegon led 7-6 at halftime.
Then Everett became a scoring machine in the third quarter, breaking loose for his long kickoff return, and scoring touchdowns on runs of seven and six yards. Montague’s Andrew Kooi also caught a 32-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Drew Collins, and suddenly the Wildcats led 34-7 headed into the fourth quarter.
Collins completed a 42-yard touchdown pass to Sam Smith in the fourth, then Panucci wrapped up the score sheet with a one-yard TD run for North Muskegon.
Collins had another big game, completing 17 of 21 passes for 214 yards and two touchdowns. Kooi caught six passes for 75 yards and one TD while Smith caught four for 64 yards and one TD.
Sophomore Rodney Bradfield led the Montague defense with 11 tackles.
North Muskegon fell to 3-3 on the season.
