The Fremont Packers came close Friday night, but came up short 20-12 against Tri-County in CSAA Gold action.

Fremont fell to 0-3 on the season.

Tri-County collected its points early, scoring with pair of one-yard runs and a passing TD to take a 20-0 lead after one quarter.

Payton Mansfield got the Packers on the board at the end of the second quarter with a 38-yard rushing touchdown. The missed PAT left the score 20-6 in favor of Tri-County at halftime.

The third quarter was scoreless.

Halfway through the fourth, Mansfield connected with Gabe Van Fleet for a five-yard touchdown pass to make it 20-12. The two-point conversion pass was not successful.

Mansfield led Fremont with 171 rushing yards and one touchdown on 28 carries, while also passing for 26 yards and a touchdown.

Elijah Shears had 14 yards receiving on two catches.

Fremont’s defense was led by Van Vleet and Michael Romero with 11.5 tackles each and Gabe DeLong with two tackles for losses.
