Holton blows early lead, falls short in fourth quarter comeback attempt

The Holton football team blew a halftime lead on Friday night and fell 32-24 to Morley Stanwood in a CSAA Silver Division contest.

Quarterback Austin Fowler opened the scoring with a touchdown pass to Austin Hawkins to make things 6-0 in the first quarter in favor of Holton.

However, Morley Stanwood scored twice to make things 16-6 to end the first quarter.

In the second, Fowler hooked up with Hawkins for another touchdown to make it 16-12, then tossed a touchdown pass to Rice Robbins to give the Red Devils a 18-16 halftime lead.

Morley Stanwood got into the end zone in the third quarter while keeping Holton out to take a 24-18 lead after three quarters.

Early in the fourth quarter, Morley Stanwood scored again, taking a 32-18 lead.

Austin Fowler responded with a rushing touchdown to cut the Holton deficit to 32-24, but the Red Devils were unable to complete the comeback.

The loss drops Holton to 2-3 on the season as well as in the CSAA Silver Division

Fowler was 12-of-19 passing for 191 yards and three touchdowns while also gaining 26 yards on seven carries to go with his fourth quarter touchdown.

Hawkins had five receptions for 133 yards and two scores, while Rice Robins had four catches for 48 yards and a touchdown.

Hawkins also led the way defensively with ten tackles, while Cam Edgerton and Dylan Cartwright each contributed with eight tackles.
