Muskegon Catholic quarterback Max Price rushed for three touchdowns as the Crusaders beat Sparta 42-6 in a non-conference road game on Friday.
MCC, which scheduled the game to fill a hole in the schedule, remains undefeated with a 3-0 record.
Price opened the scoring with 2:59 left in the first quarter with a one-yard rushing touchdown, and the PAT put MCC up 7-0.
Sparta returned the ensuing kickoff for a touchdown, but didn’t convert the PAT, leaving MCC up 7-6. That was all the scoring that the Spartans managed all night.
With 11:53 left in the second quarter, Joe Waller scored a 36-yard rushing touchdown, and the extra point gave the Crusaders a 14-6 lead.
Price scored his second rushing touchdown 5:57 before halftime, and MCC led 21-6 at the break.
Waller scored his second rushing touchdown with 4:59 left in the third quarter, this time from nine yards out. The PAT was good, and the Crusaders led 28-6.
Price scored his third rushing touchdown from a yard out with 11:36 left in the game. The ensuing PAT was good, pushing the Crusader lead to 35-6.
Dane Rutz iced the game with 19 seconds left with an 87-yard pick six. The PAT was converted, making the score 42-6.
Price rushed for 68 yards on 11 carries and completed 10 of 15 passes for 92 yards.
Waller finished the night with 103 yards rushing on 11 attempts. Tommy Kartes had 56 yards on 17 carries.
Sam Kartes led the way defensively with six tackles and an interception. Rutz finished the game with three tackles and an interception.
