The North Muskegon soccer team handed Whitehall its first loss of the season to clinch at least a share of the West Michigan Conference championship.

The Norse won the match 3-2 to improve to 6-6 on the season and 5-1 in WMC play and Whitehall is now 8-1-1 on the season and 3-1 in conference play, with two WMC games left.

Dylan Schultz led the Norse attack with a pair of goals and an assist. Brandon Winter added a goal for North Muskegon and Hunter Koekkoek had an assist. Freshman Leighton Hunt was in net and made 10 saves. 

LUDINGTON 6, SHELBY 0 — The Orioles breezed to a win over Shelby Monday night. Kyle Wendt led the scoring attack with two goals, while Parker Wendt, Colby Poplinski, Matthew Snyder and Colin Anders each added one. Nick Patterson had two assists, while Peplinski and Noah King had one each. Tiler Marrison and Wendt combined on the shutout. 

FREMONT 6, GRANT 1 — The Packers fell behind early in the first round of the CSAA tournament Monday, but went on to top grant 6-1. 

Fremont was powered by a hat trick from Marcus Klimek, along with single goals from David Wachter, Braiden McDonald, Carson Herman. Klimek, Wachter and Logan Nelson each had an assist.

Joe Kortge made two saves for Fremont while Carter Miller had three. The Packers improved to 11-1-2 overall and 10-0 in conference play with the win. 

UNITY CHRISTIAN 2, FRUITPORT 1 — The Trojans battled against the Crusaders, but fell after a pair of late goals. The game was scoreless at halftime, but Unity Christian scored twice in the last ten minutes to go up 2-0.

Henry Swartz scored with four minutes left to pull Fruitport within one, but the Trojans couldn’t complete a comeback.

Justin Laus had 10 saves in the net for Fruitport. The Trojans are now 5-4-3 on the season.
