Weekend soccer roundup: Fremont tops Ludington in defensive battle, R-P falls to EGR

In a hard fought defensive battle, the Fremont soccer team topped Ludington 1-0 in a non-conference match Saturday morning.

David Wachter scored the game’s lone goal with just nine minutes remaining to give the Packers the lead.

Fremont goalie Joe Kortge made nine saves, while Ludington keeper Tiler Marrison had five. 

With the win, Fremont is now 10-1-2 on the season, while the Orioles fell to 8-4-2. 

EAST GRAND RAPIDS 3, REETHS-PUFFER 1 — The Rockets fell to 2-6-4 (2-4-1) on the season with a loss to EGR. Reeths-Puffer fell behind in the first half and trailed 2-1 at the break.

Despite EGR being a player down in the second half after a red card, the Rockets were unable to score as the EGR defense packed in tight.

Freshman Liam Smith scored the lone goal for the Rockets, going through multiple defenders to beat the keeper with a shot to the corner of the goal.
