The Fruitport volleyball team faced an unusual challenge on Monday night in the first round of the local Division 2 district tournament.

The Trojans faced off against the Spring Lake junior varsity squad, because the Laker varsity was sidelined due to COVID concerns.

Fruitport won by set scores of 25-20, 25-8, and 25-13. 

Brooke Sieplinga paced the Trojans with 13 kills while Jenna VanderVelde recorded five aces and dished out 20 assists.
Defensively, Sarah Zielinski recorded 15 digs for Fruitport. 

The Trojans, now 7-21 on the season, and face Whitehall in Wednesday’s semifinal round.
