Ludington’s football season came to a heartbreaking end in a 22-16 loss to Sault Ste. Marie in a Division 4 district semifinal game Friday night.

The game was tied 16-16 with the clock winding down, but the Blue Devils scored on the final play of the game to get the win.

The lone score of the first half came on a touchdown by Sault Ste. Marie to make the score 8-0 entering halftime.

In the third quarter, Jake Plamondon punched in a one-yard rushing touchdown to tie the game 8-8.

In the fourth quarter the Orioles were able to tie the game once again when Brad Mesyar hit Jacob Irelan for an 18-yard touchdown to make the score 16-16 with 1:35 to play. 

The Blue Devils were able to score with a last second touchdown pass to win the game 22-16.

Mesyar completed 13 passes on 25 attempts for 129 yards while Stephen Weinert led the Orioles with 47 yards on the ground. Irelan led the team with seven catches for 59 receiving yards.

Defensively, the Orioles were led by Plamondon with 12 tackles, while Kyle Barnette added seven tackles and a pass break up. 

The Orioles finish their season 5-3, including the program’s first ever playoff win last week.
