Corey Vanderputte ran for 227 yards and four touchdowns in the Oakridge’s 41-20 victory over Big Rapids in a Division 5 district semifinal Friday night.

The Eagles move to 6-2 on the season with the win. 

The scoring started in the second quarter when Vanderputte ran for a two-yard touchdown. The Eagles were able to add another score when Ethen Daily threw a 24-yard touchdown to Braedyn Beattie to move the score to 14-0.

Big Rapids drew within 14-6 and was driving just before halftime, but Beattie was able to haul in an interception to end the drive and send the Eagles to the half leading 14-6.

Vanderputte had three touchdowns in the third quarter, scoring on 34-yard, 72-yard, and  four-yard touchdown runs to give the Eagles a 34-20 lead entering the fourth quarter.

Brenden Raymond added a three-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter to make the final score 41-20.

Defensively, Hayden Gillette led the Eagles with nine tackles. Ethan Jozsa had seven tackles, two sacks, and a forced fumble. Beattie grabbed two interceptions to go with his 24-yard touchdown catch.

The Eagles will host Tri-County next Friday night for a district championship.
