Forward Cristophe Tellier scored just over seven minutes into the third period, giving the Muskegon Lumberjacks an exciting 4-3 victory over Team USA on Saturday night in Plymouth, Michigan.

The two teams exchanged goals for the first two periods. The Lumberjacks jumped out to a 2-0 lead on first-period goals from Tanner Kelly and Owen Mehlenbacher. Team USA answered with the final two goals of the period, by Rutger McGroarty and Isaac Howard.

Team USA took a 3-2 lead with a power play goal by Cutter Gauthier at 17:32 of the second period. Muskegon’s Cameron Berg knotted things up again with his 12th goal of the season with a minute left in the period.

Tellier’s goal in the third period, his sixth of the season, gave the Jacks their margin of victory.

Goalie Nate Reid, a newcomer to the Jacks, stopped 32 of 35 shots to collect the win. Team USA outshot Muskegon 35-29.

The Lumberjacks are now 9-5-1 on the season. They are in third place in the USHL’s Eastern Conference with 19 points. Chicago leads with 23 points and Green Bay is second with 21.

The Jacks will return to action next Friday and Saturday night with a pair of games in Green Bay.
