Mona Shores hockey captures two games over weekend, Ty Langlois tallies hat trick and three assists in Game 2 win

The Mona Shores hockey team improved to 7-0 over the weekend and used a pair of third period stands to defeat Grand Rapids Kenowa Hills 6-5 and Forest Hills North Eastern 6-3 on Saturday.

In the opener against Kenowa Hills, the Sailors trailed 5-4 with just over four minutes left in the game but tied the score on an Isaac Habetler goal.

Just two minutes later, Jake Nanna gave Mona Shores a 6-5 lead and the Sailors were able to hold on for victory.

In the opening game, Habetler and Nanna both tallied two goals and an assist for Mona Shores. Nico Taylor had a goal and an assist while Brayden Morea scored a goal. Andrew Taylor and Scotty Cotner each had a pair of assists.

Ty Langlois was the hero in the Sailors’ Game 2 win over North Eastern. The junior forward was involved in all six Mona Shores goals, finishing with a hat trick and three assists.

The Sailors erupted in the final seven minutes of the game, scoring four unanswered goals to ultimately win.

Trent Benedict tied the score 3-3 on assists from Langlois and Andrew Taylor.

Langlois gave the Sailors a 4-3 lead with an unassisted goal while Habetler followed with a goal off assists from Benedict and Langlois.

Langlois finished scoring on the day with his second unassisted goal of the game to lead Mona Shores.

Mona Shores led 1-0 after the first and 2-1 after the second. But North Eastern tallied a pair of goals to give it a 3-2 lead in the third period.

Benedict finished with two goals and two assists and Andrew Taylor had two assists for the Sailors.  

Langlois and Nanna each lead the team in points this season with 20. Langlois has eight goals and 12 assists while Nanna has 13 goals and seven assists.

The undefeated Sailors host Lowell on Wednesday (7:30 p.m.) and Grand Rapids Christian on Friday (5:30 p.m.)
