The Muskegon boys basketball team overcame a slow start to beat rival Mona Shores and stay unbeaten in O-K Green conference play. The Big Reds trailed after the first quarter, but dominated the rest of the way for a 79-41 win. 

Mona Shores led 12-7 after the first quarter before Muskegon exploded for 31 points in the second to take a 38-20 lead into halftime. A 26-9 Muskegon edge in the third extended the lead to 64-29.

Jordan Briggs led Muskegon with 24 points and six steals, while Maurice Sain registered a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds. Anthony Sydnor added nine points and Ethan Hill and Kalil Stimage scored eight each.

Drew Southland and Corey Chapman each scored eight points for the Sailors, while Parker Swartz netted seven. 

Muskegon improves to 6-2 on the season, including a perfect 4-0 in the O-K Green. Mona Shores drops to 1-7 overall and 1-6 in the conference. 

O-K CONFERENCE

GRAND HAVEN 53, HUDSONVILLE 46 — Three Grand Haven boys scored in the double figures to lead the Buccaneers to the win. Harrison Sorrelle led with 14 points, followed by Bashir Neely with 13, and Nic Stump with 12.

Grand Haven led 15-8 after the first quarter, 29-14 at the half, and 40-23 at the end of the third.

The Buccaneers move to 5-1 on the season and in O-K Red conference play.

HOLLAND 52, REETHS-PUFFER 42 — The Rockets got off to a good start Thursday, but dropped an O-K Green game against the Dutch. Reeths-Puffer led 8-0 to start the game and 9-2 after the first quarter, but fell behind 20-16 by halftime and couldn’t come back in the second half.

Kaleb Mitchelson led the Rockets with 13 points and seven assists. Freshman Travis Ambrose registered his first double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds, while fellow freshman Jaxson Whitaker netted 11 points.

Reeths-Puffer falls to 4-4 on the season, including 3-3 in conference play. 

ALLENDALE 49, SPRING LAKE 34 — Spring Lake led after one quarter, but fell to O-K Blue foe Allendale Thursday night.

The Lakers held a slim 7-5 advantage after one, but trailed 25-19 by halftime. The Falcons led 31-25 after three quarters and sealed the win with good free-throw shooting in the fourth. 

The Lakers’ Jaron Little and Kaden George led the team with 10 points each.

The Spring Lake boys fall to 1-4 in both the regular season and in the O-K Blue conference.

WEST MICHIGAN CONFERENCE

MONTAGUE 57, MASON COUNTY CENTRAL 39 — Drew Collins led the Wildcats with a double-double, scoring 12 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Tugg Nichols put up another 12 points for Montague, as well as six rebounds. 

Jayden Perrone scored 16 points for Mason County Central, and Zach Draper followed with 10.

Montage led the Spartans 17-10 after the first quarter, 29-24 at the half, and 42-29 at the end of the third.

The Wildcats are now 5-1 overall and in the West Michigan Conference. Mason County Central falls to 0-7 overall, and 0-6 in conference play.
