Girls hoops roundup: Whitehall grabs 10th win; R-P, Oakridge, Ludington get victories

The Whitehall girls basketball team picked up its 10th win of the season with a 56-21 victory over North Muskegon Thursday night.

The Vikings used strong defense to build an early lead, grabbing a 9-3 edge after one quarter and a 24-8 halftime lead. Whitehall led 39-13 entering the fourth.

Sarah VanDam scored 10 points and grabbed six rebounds to lead the Vikings. Greta Hosticka and Charley Klint followed with seven each. 

Josee Cooke led North Muskegon with five points. Jasmine Duncan added four points and seven rebounds. 

The Vikings move to 10-6 overall, with a conference record of 8-5, while North Muskegon falls to 4-9 overall and 3-9 in the West Michigan Conference. 

O-K GREEN

REETHS-PUFFER 47, HOLLAND 37 — The Rockets improved to 6-7 on the year with a win over Holland Thursday night.

Sophia Hekkema led the way with 13 points, seven rebounds and three steals. Ariel Walker added nine points, five steals and three assists. Reeths-Puffer will finish the regular season Saturday against Wyoming. 

O-K RED

EAST KENTWOOD 64, GRAND HAVEN 35 — The Buccaneers struggled offensively in the first half in a loss to the Falcons Thursday.

Grand Haven trailed 21-4 after one quarter, 32-8 at halftime and 51-20 heading to the fourth. 

Zoe Spoelman led Grand Haven with eight points and four blocks. Taya Andrzejewski scored seven points, while Avery Keefe and Sammi Campbell each scored five. 

The Bucs finish the regular season at 3-11 overall and in conference play. 

WEST MICHIGAN CONFERENCE

OAKRIDGE 41, RAVENNA 29 — The Bulldogs held the lead at the half, but a big comeback from the Eagles after the break gave them the victory. 

The game was tied 9-9 in the first quarter, and the Ravenna girls led 18-12 at halftime, but Oakridge turned the tables to give the Eagles a 25-22 lead to end the third.

Jasmine Pastor led Oakridge with nine points, followed by Leah Lowry and Destyni Lane with eight points each.

The Eagles are now 6-9 for the season, with a 4-9 record in the West Michigan Conference. Ravenna moves to 5-11 overall, and 3-11 in conference play.

NON CONFERENCE

LUDINGTON 42, TRAVERSE CITY CENTRAL 21 — The Orioles played hard defense to defeat the Trojans, holding the Traverse City girls to just two points in the first half. Ludington led 10-0 in the first quarter, 25-2 at halftime, and 36-11 at the end of the third.

Keelyn Laird scored 13 points to lead Ludington, followed by RyAnn Rohrer with 10 and Hailey Stowe with seven.

The Orioles are now 11-4 in regular-season play, including 7-1 in the Lakes 8 conference.
