The Hart girls basketball team reached the “sweet sixteen” level of the Division 3 state tournament on Monday with a convincing 55-30 victory over Beaverton in the regional semifinals at Maple City Glen Lake High School.

The Pirates took control early by outscoring Beaverton 20-7 in the first quarter and 11-3 in the second. The Hart lead grew as large as 28 points in the second half.

Hart took advantage of early Beaverton turnovers and helped its own cause with  hot three-point shooting. Mariana VanAgtmael hit three shots from long range for the Pirates.

Jayd Hovey led the Pirates with 19 points, four rebounds, six steals and three assists. Morgan Marvin added 11 points, six rebounds and four blocks, while Aspen Boutell was credited with playing strong defense.

Hart now advances to the regional finals to play Maple City Glen Lake at Glen Lake High School on Wednesday at 6 p.m. The winner will advance to the state quarterfinals.
