The Montague boys baseball team held on for a 6-5 win against O-K Blue champions Grand Rapids West Catholic Thursday night.

Trey Mikkelsen recorded the final out of the game on a strikeout with the bases loaded to seal the win.

Owen Petersen was the winning pitcher, allowing three runs on five hits in four and one-third innings. He struck out seven. Mikkelsen got the save pitching the final two and two-thirds innings allowing one run and striking out four.

Tugg Nichols led the offense with three hits and two runs scored, while Petersen had two hits including a triple, an RBI and a run. Kade Johnson had a hit, an RBI and a run scored and Mikkelsen hit a double. 

Montague is now 22-11 on the season, while GR West Catholic drops to 30-8. 

LAKES 8 

LUDINGTON 15, ORCHARD VIEW 0 — The Orioles clinched a share of the Lakes 8 Conference title with the big win over Orchard View. Ludington is 10-2 in conference play this year and 20-9 overall.

Brad Mesyar was the winning pitcher, allowing just one hit and collecting five strikeouts in a three-inning complete game. Mesyar also went 2-for-2 with four RBI and two runs scored.

Gabe Hogenson had a single, a double, two RBI and a run, while Jacob Irelan had two hits, two RBI and two runs. 

O-K GREEN

ZEELAND EAST 6, REETHS-PUFFER 3 — The Rockets managed just one hit in their final conference game of the season Thursday night.

The Rockets plated three unearned runs in the fourth inning to tie the game at 3-3, but the Chix answered back to take the lead and the win.
Alex Johnson had Reeths-Puffer’s only hit. Alex Orchard drove in two runs in the fourth. Jeremy Ardshahi pitched five and a third innings for the Rockets.

Reeths-Puffer is now 20-10 on the season and finishes 13-7 in conference play. 

ZEELAND WEST 7, MONA SHORES 2 — The Sailors were unable to hold on after jumping out to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning.

Jaxon Huffman took the loss on the mound, allowing five earned runs in seven innings while striking out four. Mason Brunworth had a double for Mona Shores, while Aaron Piasecki had an RBI single.

Mona Shores is now 22-9 on the season and finishes 14-6 in the O-K Green conference.

NON CONFERENCE

MUSKEGON CATHOLIC CENTRAL 5, ZION CHRISTIAN 4 — Sam Convertini drove in the game-winning run on a sacrifice fly with the bases loaded in the seventh inning to give MCC the win.

Tom Kartes got the win in relief and had three hits and two runs scored offensively. Max Price started on the mound and recorded 10 strikeouts in five and two-thirds innings. Convertini had four stolen bases and Dewy Modaff had a double.

The Crusaders are 16-8 on the season.

RAVENNA 16-4, COVENANT CHRISTIAN 6-1 (Wednesday) — The Bulldogs improved to 18-10 with a non-conference doubleheader sweep.

Kurtis Spruit tossed a complete game in the opener, allowing five hits and registering six strikeouts. Travis May and Thomas McCullough had three hits each to lead the offense, while Adam Nutt had four RBI.

Nutt earned the win on the mound in the second game, allowing just two hits in a complete game effort. Joel Emery had a three-hit day to lead the offense, while Dom Jones smacked a pair of hits.
