Ludington had the bats working in a softball doubleheader against Manistee Thursday night. The Orioles swept to two conference games by scores of 11-1 and 14-1.
Lilli Goodrich picked up the win in Game 1, allowing five hits and striking out eight. She also hit a homerun and had three RBI. Rebecca Szoboszlay was 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI, Brynn Fortner was 2-3 with a triple and three RBI and Brynn Cole and Jody Meisenheimer both had multiple hits.
Goodrich got the win again in the second game, tossing a one-hitter with six strikeouts. Fortner, Goodrich and Kasey Wallace all had doubles in the game.
Ludington is now 10-20 overall and 4-4 in Lakes 8 action.
NON CONFERENCE
MONTAGUE 8-5, GRAND RAPIDS WEST CATHOLIC 2-11 — The Wildcats split a non-conference doubleheader Thursday afternoon.
Bailey Belinger picked up the win in the circle in Game 1 with 10 strikeouts in seven innings. Presley Davis, Stacia Scheidegger and Hannah Metcalf each had two hits to lead the Montague offense. Gabby Moreau had an RBI double as well.
Belinger, Moreau and Davis each had hits in the second game. Freshman Abby Thommen pitched a complete game with six strikeouts.
CEDAR RAPIDS 10-13, FREMONT 9-2 — The Packers dropped both ends of a doubleheader Thursday afternoon.
Rannie DeyRayl led the offense with three hits and drove in four runs in the first game. Bri Webber, Kylei Beecham, Sydney Dunbar and Laney Sipos each had two hits.
DeyRayl picked up two more hits in the second game, as did Haley Zerlaut.
Fremont is now 11-26 overall.
WEST MICHIGAN CONFERENCE
MASON COUNTY CENTRAL 5-21, SHELBY 0-20 — The Tigers dropped the first game 5-0 before falling 21-20 in an offensive battle in the nightcap.
Kendal Zoulek had a single and a double in the opener to lead the offense, while pitcher Daphne Clark struck out seven.
Shelby managed 12 runs in the fourth inning of Game 2 to take an 18-6 lead, but couldn’t hold on for the win.
Courtney Brown led the offense with a grand slam, two doubles and seven RBI. Zoulek had two doubles, two singles and four RBIs. Kaylyn Clark had three hits and two RBI, while Ally Corey, Dakota Dow and Megan Sly each had one hit.
