The West Michigan Whitecaps were unable to overcome an early deficit on Thursday, falling 4-1 to Great Lakes.

The Loons scored three runs in the top of the first inning and one runi n the third inning to take a 4-0 lead.

That 4-0 lead held until the Whitecaps scored on an Andre Lipcius solo home run in the eighth inning that made the score 4-1 which was ultimately the final.

Starting pitcher Chance Kirby took the loss, allowing one earned run on five hits over three innings of work.

The Whitecaps bullpen tossed six innings while allowing just two hits and no runs.

Lipcius led the Whitecaps offense with three hits on the night while Parker Meadows finished with two hits.

The Whitecaps are now 3-5 overall on the season and will continue their home series against Great Lakes with first pitch scheduled for 6:35 p.m. on Friday night.
