The West Michigan Whitecaps were shutout 8-0 in a season opening loss at Fort Wayne on Tuesday night.

Tuesday night was the debut for the Whitecaps in the new High-A Central league eastern division.

Fort Wayne scored two runs in the second, three runs in the third and three runs in the seventh to cruise to victory.

West Michigan starting pitcher Keider Montero surrendered five runs on two hits while walking four over 2 2/3 innings of work.

Dillon DIngler, Andre Lipcius, Bryant Packard and Eliezer Alfonzo all had one hit to lead the Whitecap offense.

The Whitecaps will continue their series at Fort Wayne on Wednesday with the game scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
