The West Michigan Whitecaps defeated Lake County 2-1 on Friday night to win their fifth straight game overall.

With the win, the Whitecaps are now 12-9 overall on the season and tied with Dayton for first place in the High A Central East Division.

The two Whitecaps runs on Friday came in the fourth inning when Dillon Dingler hit a two-run home run to give West Michigan a 2-0 lead.

Lake County scratched across a run in the seventh inning to ultimately make the final score 2-1.

Daniel Cabrera paced the Whitecaps with three hits on the night while Dingler had two RBIs.

Starting pitcher Keider Montero picked up the win, allowing six hits and walking one while striking out five over five innings of work.

The Whitecaps bullpen combined to allow one run on four hits over the final four innings of work.

West Michigan will continue its series versus Lake County on Saturday with first pitch scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
