The West Michigan Whitecaps exploded for 12 runs in a 12-1 victory over Great Lakes on Thursday night to get back to winning ways.
Spencer Torkelson hit a solo home run in the first inning to give the Whitecaps a 1-0 lead.
That lead didn’t hold long as Great Lakes tied the game in the home half of the inning at 1-1.
Dane Myers hit a solo home run in the fourth inning to put the Whitecaps back ahead with a 2-1 lead.
In the fifth inning, Dillon Dingler doubled home Daniel Cabrera, Torkelson scored on a wild pitch and Dingler scored on a Reynaldo Rivera fielders choice play to give the Whitecaps a 5-1 lead.
Eric De La Rosa singled home Eliezer Alfonzo in the eighth inning before Cabrera singled home De La Rosa and Dingler hit a grand slam to give the Whitecaps a 11-1 lead.
Wenceel Perez doubled home Alfonzo in the ninth inning to cap off the scoring and give the Whitecaps a 12-1 lead.
Dingler and Alfonzo each had three hits to lead the Whitecaps while DIngler also added five RBIs on the night.
The Whitecaps are now 16-10 overall on the season and a game ahead of Dayton for first place in the High A Central East Division.
On Friday, the Whitecaps and Loons will continue their series with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
