The Mona Shores baseball team ended its regular season in thrilling fashion on Wednesday, scoring seven runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to overcome a huge deficit and beat Hudsonville 7-6.

Hudsonville led 6-0 headed into the Sailors’ last at-bat. Aaron Piasecki walked to start the bottom of the 7th. Mark Konecny grounded out to third, advancing Piasecki to second. Diego Pena had an infield single to place runners at first and second. Reid McAvoy smoked an RBI double to right to put runners at second and third. Jason Anderson drew a full count walk to load the bases, then astrikeout left the Sailors with two outs and th bases loaded, trailing 6-1. 

But there was more to come. Landon Thalman laced a two-RBI single to right to bring the score to 6-3. Mason Brunworth followed with an RBI single to right center to make the score 6-4. A passed ball scored Thalman to make the score 6-5. Brady Rose walked to put runners at the corners. Piasecki was intentionally walked to load the bases, then  Konecny singled to deep short, and Rose was able to score from second base on an amazing read to secure the walk-off win.

Mona Shores, now 24-9, will open district play at 10 a.m. on Saturday against Muskegon, with the winner advancing to the title game later that day.

REETHS-PUFFER 6, MUSKEGON CATHOLIC 0 – The Rockets (21-10) scored two runs in the bottom of the first and never looked back, tacking on a run in each inning except for the second.

Alex Johnson had four hits, including a double, while Jaxson Whitaker added three hits, including a double. Trent Reichert had a hit and knocked in two runs.

R-P pitchers Ryan Barmes, Jordan Bochenek, Jeremy Ardshahi and Reichert combined for the shutout. The Rockets also played exceptional defense behind their pitchers.

MONTAGUE 12-12, GRANT 1-2 – Montague pitcher Owen Peterson got the win in Game 1. Tugg Nichols had two hits and three RBIs and scored twice. Sam Smith had a hit, three RBIs and scored twice. Aidan Buchberger knocked in two runs and Nick Moss scored two.

In Game 2, Trey Mikkelsen pitched the win for the Wildcats. Buchberger had three hits, including a double, while knocking in a run and scoring twice. Colton Blankstrom had four RBIs and scored twice while Peterson knocked in a run and scored twice.

Montague, now 25-12, now moves on to districts on Saturday.
