Defending division 2 state football champs Mona Shores kicked off its season with a 56-14 blowout win over host Lowell in Thursday’s season opener.

The Sailors came out swinging, scoring 35 unanswered points in the first half.

Mona Shores signal caller Mark Konecny had as good of a day anyone can hope for. The senior QB compiled 216 yards on 8 of 11 passing, rushed for 96 yards, including three touchdown runs.

Demetri Roberson led the Sailors’ receivers, making four catches for 116 yards, including a 94-yard TD strike to start the game’s scoring.

Elijah Johnson rushed in a pair of first-half touchdowns for Mona Shores.

KeWaun Farnum had an impressive 69-yard TD punt return in the 3rd quarter and also recovered a fumble for the Sailors.

Mona Shores defense was effective the entire night as Jaylen Vinton recorded an 80-yard pick-six. David Frederick had seven tackles, CJ Ivy made six tackles and Jeff Lenardowicz pulled in a fumble recovery and had three tackles.

The Sailors visit Detroit King for a Week 2 showdown and won’t play on their home surface until Week 4 on September 17.
