Spring Lake fought off a late Fruitport rally and squeaked out a 35-32 win over its rival in the “Bayou Battle” on Friday night.

In a O-K Blue battle that saw both QB’s put up big yards, the Lakers’ win came down to their first-half offense.

Led by QB Jackson Core and running back Christian Folkert, Spring Lake led 14-7 after the first quarter and held a 28-14 lead by halftime.

Core was too much for the Trojans as the senior QB was 10-of-13 passing for 209 yards and had two passing touchdowns.

Finding success in the running game was the Lakers’ Folkert who rushed 17 times for 128 yards and found the end zone twice.

Gavin Reames took a lot of shots down field for Fruitport (1-3, 0-2 O-K Blue) but struggled to find his target on occasion, going 16-for-31, gaining 300 yards with a pair of passing touchdowns.

Camden Farrell was Reames’ go-to receiver, making 11 catches for 158 yards and had three touchdowns for Fruitport.

Collin Jolman also shared in the Trojans’ passing game, throwing and completing two passes for 70 yards and a touchdown.

Brody Lightfoot also had six rush attempts for 56 yards. Ty French and Carter Sabo each had a receiving touchdown for the Lakers.

Spring Lake’s Lightfoot made five tackles. Pascal Jolman scored the lone rushing touchdown for the Trojans, finishing with 73 yards.

Spring Lake is set to visit Hamilton next Friday for another conference match. Fruitport will go to West Catholic on Friday.
