Kent City’s Lila Volkers and Samuel Martini took top medalist honors at the Sparta cross country invitational over the weekend.

Volkers, a freshman, took first place in the girls Silver division with a time of 19:29.94. The sophomore Martini finished first in the boys Silver division with a time of 17:18:69.

The Kent City girls team led area teams at the invitie with a first-place finish in the Silver division.

BOYS WHITE (D2/D3) – Grand Rapids Christian took top honors with a team score of (32). Grant placed fourth (122) and Oakridge came in fifth (132). Finishing in the top twenty locally were sophomore, Brodie Delamater of Kent City (7th), freshman, Peyton Ruel of Oakridge (11th) and senior, Maxwell Renondino, also of Oakridge (14th).

BOYS SILVER – Saranac took top team honors with a team score of (49), followed by Saugatuck (52), Kent City (68) and Montague (71).

Kent City Sophomore Samuel Martini top individual honors, with a finishing time of 17:18.64.

Other local finisher’s in the top twenty included Owen Fairchild (2nd/Montague), Cale Coppess (5th/Montague), Jaren Vogel (9th/Kent City), Clay Johnson (13th/Montague), Sam Freeland (15th/Kent City), Leto Pendleton (17th/Kent City) and Kevin Roll (20th/ Montague).

BOYS GOLD – Fruitport (51) finished in second place just behind first-place Sparta (33),

Placing in the top twenty were four Fruitport runners. Levi Glynn (5th), Alex Facundo (6th), Jaxon Deneen (9th) and Johnathon McMullin (15th).

GIRLS SILVER – The Kent City Eagles took top team honors with a low score of 22.

Kent City freshmen, Lila Volkers, took top honors with a time of 19:29.94. Teammate Alyeska Linsley followed just behind in second place. Other local top ten finisher’s included Isabelle Auch (4th/Montague), Isabella Max (6th/Kent City), Kierra Flegel (7th/Kent City), Alisha Esquivel (9th/Kent City) and Emily Lantzer (10th/Kent City).

GIRLS Gold – Spring Lake took third with a score of 77. Top twenty finishers included Lily Parker (2nd/Spring Lake), Lexie Ruffing (13th/Spring Lake), Brooke Sweet (16th/Fruitport), Makaela Schmidt (19th/Spring Lake) and Valerie Pollock (20th/Fruitport).
