The Mona Shores volleyball team went 2-1 on Wednesday in its home quad.

The Sailors started with a win over Fremont and Whitehall, but fell to Jenison.

Against Fremont, Mona Shores won with set scores of 25-18 and 25-17.

Stumbling in the start of game two against Whitehall, the Sailors rallied back to defeat the Vikings with scores of 16-25, 25-23 and 15-9.

The Sailors dropped a close first set to Jenison and had an opportunity to win the second, but an out of rotation error closed the door to stay alive against the Wildcats.

The Sailors lost 26-24 and 25-23.

Leading Mona Shores on the day was Ava Dunn with 20 kills and 11 blocks. Grace Norris had 25 assists, 12 kills, four blocks and 23 digs while Kyann Hellmann helped with 18 assists, five kills and 18 digs.

Anabeth Hylland had seven kills, three blocks and 12 digs and Holli Brus had eight kills, 19 digs and four aces. Chloe Rose and Lauren Morea had 21 and 15 digs, respectively. Linden Gentzkow had four kills.

Mona Shores is now 6-5 on the season and will play their first O-K Green match next Thursday, September 9 against Grand Rapids Union.
