The Spring Lake football team cruised past Zeeland East in a 56-21 Week-2 surprise for Laker fans.

Christian Folkert hammered his way to four touchdowns, amassing 211 yards on 11 carries in the lopsided win for Spring Lake. The 6-0, 200 pound senior found his longest run on a 65-yard scamper.

The Lakers built a 21-0 lead after the first quarter and led 42-0 at half time. They led 49-0 through the third quarter before Zeeland East could do anything about the routing.

Quarterback Jackson Core was near perfect for the Lakers, going 6 of 7 passing for 90 yards and a pair of scores.

Derrick Paggeot was Core’s main receiver, making four catches for 71 yards while finding the end zone once. Joe Westhoff caught a 25-yard TD strike for Spring Lake as well.

Spring Lake piled up 401 yards in its ground attack, getting eight different players into the mix. Alex Lee had the next longest run behind Folkert, with a 46-yard sprint.

The Lakers are now 2-0 and host Holland Christian on Friday, September 10 for a 7 p.m. start.
