Grant fell into a 14-0 hole against the visiting Big Rapids Cardinals on Friday evening and the Tigers couldn’t claw back, dropping a 21-12 decision.

The Tigers had some momentum going into the half, as Brady Jacobs capped a 16-play drive with a 5-yard touchdown run to cut Big Rapids’ lead to 14-6 with 1 minute, 10 seconds left in the second quarter. Jacobs led Grant with 160 rushing yards on 34 carries.

Big Rapids turned in its own lengthy scoring drive in the third, pushing its advantage to 21-6.

Jacobs finished out the scoring with an 11-yard touchdown run with 4:01 left in the contest.

Aside from his big game on the ground, Jacobs also completed 7-of-15 passes for 73 passing yards for Grant. The Tigers’ defense was led by Treyton Railling with eight tackles and a tackle for loss, as well as Nolan Corvers with eight tackles. Zachary Barnhart picked off two passes for the Tigers, who fall to 3-4 overall and 3-3 in the Central State Activities Association’s Gold Division.

Grant is back in action next Friday against Central Montcalm.
