Home course advantage put the Fremont Packers boys’ cross country team in its comfort zone on Tuesday.
That, and a pack of solid runners, led the Packers to an easy 33-85 victory over Big Rapids in the CSAA Gold Cross Country Championship.
Fremont senior Connor Somers led the way for the Packers, bringing home the first-place finish in 16:49.80.
Teammate, senior Brennan Schuler, was third in 18:12.97 while fellow senior Gavin Schuler came in sixth with a time of 18:28.23.
Grant sophomore Brodie Delamater finished ninth in a time 19:13.00.
The girls, however, finished in sixth place with 136 points. Remus Chippewa Hills won the title, beating out Stanton Central Montcalm, 49-71. Reed City was third followed by Big Rapids, Newaygo, Tri-County and Grant.
Area runners finishing in the top 10 were Newaygo sophomore Remington Arney, who was third in 22:15.21 and Fremont senior Taava Johnson was fourth in 22:35.55.
