The Fruitport Trojans boys cross country team edged out the Whitehall Vikings and captured the Fruitport Cross Country Invitational on Saturday.

The meet was at Rycenga Park.

Fruitport finished with 31 points, followed by Whitehall with 34. Other team scores included; Grand Rapids Union with 115, Muskegon Catholic Central with 120, Grand Rapids West Catholic with 133, Ravenna with 133 and Muskegon with 172.

Whitehall’s Andre Richmond took first place with a time of 17:45.14. He was closely followed by teammate Carter McIllroy at 17:46.23.

Fruitport had five runners finish in the top 10. That included Levi Glynn in third, Alex Facundo in fourth, Ethan Horman in eighth, Jaxon Deneen in ninth and Jonathon McMullin in 10th.

Other top ten local runners included; Oakridge’s Peyton Ruel in seventh and Whitehall’s Riley Buys I sixth.

In the girls division, Grand Rapids West Catholic won the title with 23 points, followed by Whitehall with 54. Taking third place was Fruitport with 75, followed by Muskegon Catholic Central in fourth place with 103. Oakridge was fifth with 110, followed by Ravenna in sixth with a score of 171 and Grand Rapids Union had 184.

Maggie Duba of Grand Rapids West Catholic took first place with a 20:32.70.

Other local top 10 runners included; Fruitport’s Valerie Pollock in third, Whithall’s Hayli Fagan in fifth, Whitehall’s Ariana Treat in sixth, Fruitport Calvary Christian’s Tatum Dykstra in seventh, Whitehall’s Adalyn Britton in ninth and Holton’s Vanessa Peltoniemi in 10th.
