Nothing like a clean sweep and that’s what the Hart Pirates accomplished a soggy West Michigan Conference cross country championship.
The meet was run at Shelby.
Both the girls and the boys came away with first-place finishes and both victories came in convincing fashion. The girls outdistanced Whitehall 21-55 and the boys defeated the Vikings 36-54.
In the girls’ race, Oakridge followed in third place, while Montague was fourth, Shelby fifth, Ravenna sixth and Mason County Central seventh.
Hart had the top two spots in the girls’ race as freshman Jessica Jazwinski won in a time of 20:37.60 and senior Audrianna Enns was second in 21:12.87.
Shelby junior Emma Soelberg finished in third place with a time of 22:17.79, another Hart freshman Lexie Beth Nienhuis was fourth in 22:29.00 and North Muskegon senior Gabriella Wingard was fifth in 22:31.47.
North Muskegon junior Carolyn Bennett finished sixth in 22:59.86, Montague senior Isabelle Auch was seventh in 23:07.89 and Hart senior Lauren VanderLaan was eighth in 23:22.33. Whitehall senior Hayli Fagan finished ninth in 23:27.42 and Hart junior Savanna Owens rounded out the top 10 with a time of 24:15.69.
Mason County Central’s boys were third with 106 points, followed by North Muskegon fourth, Oakridge fifth, Montague sixth, Ravenna seventh and Shelby eighth.
Hart junior Clayton Ackley led the Pirates with a first-place finish in 18:44.59. Whitehall junior Andre Richmond was second in 19:04.56 and Whitehall senior Riley Buys was third in 19:14.15.
Whitehall junior Carter McIlroy finished fourth in 19:14.50, North Muskegon junior Jude Meldrum-Roy was fifth in 19:16.76. Hart junior Wyatt Dean was sixth in 19:28.43, Montague senior Cale Coppess finished seventh in 19:30.63 and Hart freshman Max Stitt was eighth in 19:35.25.
Hart junior Seth Ackley was ninth in 19:39.50 and rounding out the top 10 was Oakridge freshman Peyton Ruel in 19:46.52.
