There’s no better way to celebrate homecoming than to get off to a fast start and never look back.

On Saturday afternoon, the Kent City Eagles scored on their first six possessions and defeated Hartford 46-6.

Six different Eagles found the endzone for Kent City, 5-2 overall, 3-1 in the CSAA Silver Conference.

Kent City scored four touchdowns in the first quarter and never looked back. On their first possession, the Eagles drove 55 yards on seven plays. Junior Mason Westbrook scored on a 2-yard run.

After Kent City recovered a fumble, the Westbrook rushed 18 yards for a touchdown. Dylan Sutton converted the PAT for a 13-0 lead.

The Eagles cashed in on another turnover. Sophomore Joe VanOffelen scored on a 50-yard run with and it was 19-0 in the latter stages of the opening quarter.

Kent City recovered a squib kick and five plays later, junior Webb Longcore scored on a 4 yard run. The Eagles led 26-0 after one quarter.

Two more touchdowns in the second quarter – a 29-yard run by Jim Anderson and a 15-yard run by Kyler Larson – gave the hosts a 39-0 halftime lead.

After a Hartford touchdown, Kent City completed the scoring on a touchdown by Chase Moreno.

Mason Westbrook led the rushing attack with eight carries for 66 yards.

Kyle Montarusso led the Eagles with 7 tackles. Dylan Schutt and Jim Anderson each recorded 5 tackles.

The Eagles travel to Grant in the regular-season finale with hopes still alive for a playoff berth.
