The Fremont’s boys cross country qualified for the Division 2 state finals on Friday after finishing second at the regionals.

Packer Connor Somers was the individual champion.

The top finish among girls’ teams was Ludington, which just missed the cut with a fourth-place finish.

The Region 10 championship was hosted by Remus Chippewa Hills.

Petoskey captured the regional title followed by Fremont, Sparta, Whitehall and Cadillac. Other area teams included Ludington on ninth and Grant in 14th.

Somers, a senior, ran the course in 15:51.97 to capture first place. Whitehall placed two runners in the Top 10 – junior Andre Richmond was ninth in 17:05.43 and senior Riley Buys finished 10th in 17:06.68.

Petoskey made it a clean sweep by winning the girls’ race. Cadillac finished second, followed by Chippewa Hills, Ludington and Sparta. Other local teams included Whithall in sixth, Newaygo in 11, Fremont in 13th and Grant in 17th.

Racers finishing in the top 10 included Ludington freshman Summer Brower in seventh place with a time of 20:09.76, while Newaygo sophomore Remington Arney was eighth in 20:16.87.

All four divisions will gather at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn next Saturday for the state final meets.
