Despite starting off their O-K Blue Conference battle neck-and-neck in the first quarter on Friday, the Spring Lake Lakers couldn’t keep up in a 54-21 loss to visiting Unity Christian.

In the Lakers’ first loss of the season, quarterback Jackson Core tried to manage the game, but found little success against the Unity Christian defense. Core was 5 of 11 through the air for a total of 56 yards. Core did find the end zone with his legs for a score, and rushed for 27 yards on six attempts.

Taking the brunt of the production for the Lakers was running back Alex Lee, who rushed the ball 35 times for 150 yards and punching in two scores.

Also contributing was Andrew Vonwahlde with two receptions for 43 yards, including a 41-yard catch.  He also made six tackles on the other side of the ball for the Lakers.

The loss drops the Lakers to 5-1 on the season and 3-1 in league play.

Spring Lake will play host to Coopersville in their next conference matchup next week.
