Grand Haven’s girls cross country team finished 12th in the Division 1 state championship race at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn Saturday afternoon.

The Buccaneers scored 366 points. Ann Arbor Pioneer won the state title, well ahead of runnerup Holland West Ottawa, 68-100. Traverse City Central was third.

Freshman Valerie Beeck was the first Buccaneer to cross the finish line in 11th place with a time of 18:20.49. She was followed by sophomore  Payton Hosley, who was 53rd in 19:25.98.

Other Grand Haven finishers included freshman Addison Smith 66th in 19:37.77, freshman Lily Frendt 117th in 20:21.38, Junior Margot Frendt 119th in 20:23.41, sophomore Laurel Tolliver 127th in 20:30.05 and freshman Gracey Barry 190th in 22:26.93.
