Trent Benedict hasn’t just been hot to start the 2021-22 Mona Shores hockey season. The senior forward has been on fire.

Benedict tallied his third-straight hat trick performance on Friday night in the Sailors’ 9-1 win over visiting Grand Haven. He also had three assists in the win for Mona Shores over the Bucs.
The first 3-goal performance for Benedict came against Reeths-Puffer and was followed up with another hat trick against Lowell earlier this week.

Mona Shores started out just as it did against Lowell on Wednesday, falling behind 1-0 to Grand Haven. But just like on Wednesday, the Sailors responded with a burst of goals.

The Bucs took the early lead off of a Tristen Goss goal that was assisted by Dolan Smits.

But Ty Langlois tied the score 1-1 for Mona Shores on helpers from Benedict and Diego Pena.

Two minutes later, Benedict tallied his first goal of the night off assists from Langlois and Nathan McNarland, putting Mona Shores up 2-1.

Zach Leibrandt gave the Sailors a 3-1 lead just before halftime on assists from Nico Taylor and Landon Taylor.

Benedict opened the second period with back-to-back goals while Zach Leibrandt and Chase Knowlton gave the Sailors a 7-1 lead to close out the second period.

Jake Nanna scored both of his goals on the night in the third period to close out the scoring for Mona Shores.

Goalie Carter Dethloff posted the win, having to kill 11 penalties with the Mona Shores defense on the night.
