The Fremont girls basketball earned its first victory of the season against Central Montcalm on Friday night.

The Packers captured the needed win before the holiday break, 45-32.

Fremont opened up the first quarter with an 18-13 lead and heated up defensively in the second to take a 30-18 lead by half.

“What a difference it makes when the ball goes in the basket,” said Fremont Coach Wes Zerlaut about his team being able to make baskets on Friday. “The girls played hard tonight, but the biggest difference was that hey made shots.”

Leading all scorers was Haley Zerlaut with 17 points and three assists while Mia Witte scored 10 points and pulled down seven rebounds.

Also producing for the Packers was Jessica Bennett’s eight points and eight rebounds and Lily VandenBerg’s eight points.

Fremont jumps to 1-4 and is set to host Sparta on Tuesday.
