The Fremont girls basketball team dropped their conference opener 59-29 to Big Rapids on Friday.

The Packers fell behind early from cold shooting, allowing Big Rapids to go up 16-2 after the first quarter.

Fremont managed to put up an 11-point second quarter but trailed 29-13 at halftime.

“It was another frustrating night,” said Coach Zerlaut. “The girls are working hard and doing a lot of things right, but are often just a step out of position on defense, or execute on offense only to miss a short shot.”

Mia Witte led Fremont with 12 points while Jessica Bennett had six points and grabbed six rebounds.

Fremont falls to 0-3 and will try to snap their losing streak on Tuesday when they travel to Cedar Springs.
