The Hesperia girls basketball team was seconds away from tallying its first win of the season on Friday.

But Lakeview spoiled The Panthers’ hopes with a last second free throw to top Hespera, 37-36.

The Panthers started behind right away, going down 13-2 in the first quarter. Hesperia’s offense continued the downturn going into halftime down 19-8.

Coming out of the locker room, the Panthers strengthened their defense and made their shots on the attack to go on a 26-16 scoring run in the second half.

Unfortunately the Panthers fell by a single free throw but Coach Vince Godus saw some good things in his teams performance.

“Our team never gave up,” said Grodus. “That will payoff as we gain experience.”

Leading for the Panthers Emmet Tinkham scored 16 points and made nine rebounds while Emma Joppich added 14 points to the board.

Hesperia falls to 0-3 and 0-2 in the CSAA Silver and will visit Kent City on Friday January 7th.
