SCOTTVILLE — Mason County Central’s girls basketball team snapped a two-game losing streak Tuesday night with a 39-31 Western Michigan Conference victory over Oakridge in Scottville.

The Spartans trailed Oakridge, 14-8 at the end of the first quarter and only 10-9 in the second quarter and finished the first half behind, 23-18.

After that, the Spartans dominated. They outscored Oakridge, 12-4 in the third period and took a 30-27 lead into the fourth quarter, and then outscored Oakridge, 9-4 in the final eight minutes.

Jaden Peterson led the Spartans with nine points. Wren Nelson tossed in eight and Charlie Banks added seven.

Destiny Lane and Jasmine Pastore each scored nine for Oakridge.

The Spartans, who are 2-2 overall and 1-2 in the WMC, are at home Friday night for a conference game against Shelby. Oakridge (1-4 overall, 0-4 WMC) is at Ravenna on Friday.
