Mason County Central’s wrestling team finished 1-4 at the Scottville Optimist Invitational on Saturday in Scottville, picking up its only win in its first match of the day against county rival Ludington.
Allendale defeated Reeths-Puffer in the final to take home the trophy.
After beating the Orioles, the Spartans dropped their next four matches to Allendale, Reeths-Puffer, Benzie Central and Shelby.
Going undefeated on the day were senior heavyweight Andrew Quinn and sophomore 125-pounder Zane McCabe.
“Both wrestlers looked really good,” Spartans wrestling coach Trim Kendel said.
“Andrew had a dominant wn against a ranked opponent, and Zane just had good control all day. He was never really in any danger.
“We wrestled well. We saw a lot of things we need to work on. A few team things, but mostly just individual adjustments we need to make.”
Freshman 112-pounder Hunter Sanford and senior 130-pouner Jacob Maidens each went 4-1, while sophomore 119-pounder and freshman 135-pounder Coulter Kirchner were 3-2.
Next up for the Spartans is a dual match at Hart on Wednesday.
