MESICK — Mason County Eastern’s girls basketball team fell into a deep freeze in the fourth quarter, and it proved to be decisive in a 42-31 loss to Mesick on the road Friday night.

The Cardinals were outscored, 14-2 in the fnal eight minutes, which spoiled any thoughts they might have had of coming away with a win in the Western Michigan D League game.

Actually, the Cardinals had a bad second half.

Eastern outscored the Bulldogs, 8-6 in the first quarter and 14-13 in the second to build a narrow 22-19 halftime lead.

But then the wheels came off. The Bulldogs outscored the Cardnals, 9-7 in the third period and went into the final eight minutes with a double digit lead, 33-21.
