Montague used a potent defense to run past North Muskegon 48-19 in a WMC girls’ basketball win on Friday.

Kendall Osborne’s stat-stuffing performance and a stringy defense propelled Montague.

Osborne finished with 10 points, four assists, seven rebounds, two steals, and a block while the Wildcats held the Norse scoreless in the first.

Montague jumped out to a 15-0 first quarter lead. The stifling team defensive performance provided a 24-5 lead at halftime. The Wildcats never slowed up, increasing their third quarter lead 39-14.

Maddie Meacham and Ana Trevino finished with seven points and eight rebounds each for Montague.

Montague was also paced by Emma Dyer with six points and two assists, Hayley Schwarz had six points and three rebounds and Britta Johnson had five points and three rebounds.

North Muskegon was led Jena Francis with five points and Josee Cooke added four points.

The win before the holiday break for the Montague squad improves the wildcats to 5-1 and 4-0 in conference play. Montague will host Shelby on January 6th for another WMC tilt.

North Muskegon falls to 1-4 and 0-4 in WMC action. The Norsemen will host Manistee on January 4th to try to get back into the win column.
