The Montague girls basketball team used defense to run past rival Whitehall in a 45-27 West Michigan Conference win on Tuesday.

The Wildcats defense held Whitehall to three single digit quarters while overcoming an offensive slump of their own in the second and third quarter.

Montague led 16-6 after the first quarter but led 20-16 at halftime. The Wildcats outscored Whitehall 25-11 in the second half to pull away.

Kendal Osborne led Montague with 15 points, four rebounds, four assists, and four steals while Clare Meachem chipped in 12 points and had four rebounds.

Lauren Smith had five points, seven rebounds and an assist and Ana Trevino had four points and three rebounds for the Wildcats. 

Whitehall’s Charley Klint led all scores with 22 points and 16 rebounds.

Whitehall is now 2-3 overall adn 2-1 in the WMC and will host Hart on Friday.
